Fashion Illustration by Margarita Warnke

"Fashion is Fierce" by Margarita Warnke
Margarita Warnke, based in Fresno, California, is a Stylist, Runway Editor and Fashion Illustrator.  She has generously donated a new fashion illustration, seen here, to The Compassion Fashion Project for our ever growing t-shirt line.  From this illustration I was able to create not only a new t-shirt, but also a darling tote bag.  Learn more about Warnke in the following interview.

How long have you been interested in fashion illustration and what sparked your interest in this niche field?

I've been interested in fashion illustration since 1997.  I started while attending one of the Fashion Design schools in L.A county.

Where do you live and what is the "style" like there?

I've lived in Fresno for a few years now and call local style "a pure Americana, hot weather version":shorts and tank tops for summer; jeans, T-shirts and sensible shoes for transition.  Add to that cozy and suede boots, your winter ensemble is complete.

Do you work in fashion and if so, what is the nature of your work?

I work as a visual stylist for a major retailer.
"Fashion is Fierce" Long Sleeve Tee (Fitted), $28.00

Who is your favorite designer and why?

I have a few...always liked Galliano and Gaultier . They are great visionaries and showmen.  Plus their clothes are beautifully made.

Who is your favorite artist and why?

My favorite illustrator is Nuno Da Costa.  His colours are perfectly balanced, harmonious and soft.

What are your future goals in fashion illustration?

Fashion illustration will remain my hobby.
"Fashion is Fierce" Jumbo Tote, $26.95

What one piece of advice would you give someone who was interested in becoming a fashion illustrator?

Be patient.  Drawing just like any skill takes time to be developed

What mediums do you enjoy using in your illustrations (pen, pencil, watercolor etc.)?

I prefer 2HB pencil, the most forgiving medium (thank God for eraser).

Where can people find your work and keep up with what you are doing?

The Fresno Examiner,  I write occasionally, and fashions.org.

Why did you want to donate your artwork to The Compassion Fashion Project?

I'm always willing to help with the great cause.  Freely give, freely receive.

Much thanks to Margarita Warnke.
With love~The Compassion Fashion Project
